Dilophosaurus Wetherilli (Up-to-Date Version, 2025)
Artist: Lawrence Lin
The Dilophosaurus is not one of the most popular creatures, but every person who has watched Jurassic Park has witnessed the most inaccurate depiction of the Dilophosaurus in history. There are three major inaccuracies with it. As shown above, the Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park was depicted as having a frill, which took inspiration from the frilled lizard. However, no fossils of the dilophosaurus have ever suggested any frill-like structure whatsoever. The second inaccuracy is the size. In the movie, it was depicted as 6 feet long, but in reality, it was closer to 20 feet long, more than three times longer than the film version. The third and last inaccuracy is how it spat venom. There is no evidence of any dinosaur to suggest that any dinosaur even had any venoms, let alone spit it. The first dilophosaurus was discovered in the 1940s. It had the unique feature of having 2 crests on the top of its head. The name, dilophosaurus, means double-crested lizard, which is what it should be thought of as: a 20 feet long apex predator with 2 crests on its head, not one that spat venom or displayed a frill.
