Stegosaurus: Droopy Tail and Single-Colored?
Stegosaurus (Up-to-Date Version)

The Stegosaurus has become one of the well-known dinosaurs because of two unique features: back plates and tail spikes. Paleontologists have discovered that the Stegosaurus didn't just swing it's tail, that it actually aimed it to hit precise spots, kind of like a fencer. This discovery is suggested by the finding that some specimens of Allosaurus' pelvis have holes that fit the shape of stegosaurus tail spikes, which means that the Stegosaurus aimed for vitals and organs that would greatly harm enemies to deter them. Something else to note is how stegosaurus' tails have been represented in the media. When Jurassic Park: The Lost World came out, the Stegosaurus was depicted pretty accurately as the tail did not hang, but was stiff in the air. However, later movies then depicted them with tails that dragged, which is inaccurate. Another inaccuracy is its colors depicted in the movies. The back plates have been suggested to act as possible heat regulators or back armor, but none of these claims have actually been backed up. The most likely use of these plates is as mating displays. If they were in fact mating displays, they would be more colorful, like other mating displays of today's animals. However, most media does not depict the plates with much color, but with a sort of muted brown, as can be seen in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies.
