Mosasaurus: Scaly and Gigantic?
Mosasaurus (Up-to-Date Version)

The Mosasaurus is one of the most well-known prehistoric sea creatures to both paleontoligsts and the public as a result of abundant fossils. Although it's one of the better known ancient sea creatures, the 2015 Jurassic World skewed the public to view it as a giant crocodile-like creature. Although it is a giant creature, measuring up to around 40 feet, the movie depicted it even larger, at over 100 feet long. Another inaccuracy is its skin and body composition. While the Jurassic World mosasaurus shares similarities with crocodiles such as similar scales and similar body proportions, there is no evidence that the Mosasaurus had such scaly, almost armor-like skin. Rather, it was much more smooth, more similar to shark or snake scales. As for body composition, it is very likely that the mosasaurus had some blubber for insulation, similarly to other sea creatures of today. This means that the Mosasaurus likely wasn't as lean as depicted in Jurassic World and actually had fatty layers behind it's skin.
